Safari Types and Planning Your Visit

If you are planning to visit Ranthambore National Park, then you can choose between two types of safaris:

  1. The Jeep Safari

  2. The Canter Safari.

I chose the Canter Safari; the seats were comfortable and could accommodate larger groups. Therefore, you can share in the enjoyment of the wildlife experience with your friends or family. You will have a guide with you to assist you in identifying the birds and other wildlife. The safari duration is approximately 3 and a half hours,  with one session in the morning around 6 am and another in the evening around 3 pm. Due to the high demand, advanced booking is highly recommended, which can be easily done online.

Tiger spotting at Ranthambore National Park

In addition to being well-known for its safaris, Ranthambore is one of the world's best tiger reserves, with a sizable population of Bengal tigers. These majestic creatures are often spotted during safaris, given their nature—a rare trait among tigers that usually are nocturnal. The park ensures a high likelihood of tiger sightings, making it a favourite spot for photographers and wildlife enthusiasts alike.

Where to stay in Sawai Madhopur

If you are wondering where to stay in Ranthambore then Tiger Machan Resort in Madhopur is a good option. They offer both cottages and rooms, so you can choose whatever suits you best. The rooms don’t have TVs, but with the safari and other experiences, you might prefer to soak in the peaceful sounds of nature. The staff was incredibly warm, and the food felt just like a home-cooked meal.

Since the nights can get a bit chilly, you can request a bonfire and simply relax, enjoying the quietness of the surroundings. It’s the perfect way to wind down after a day of exploring, with the warmth of the fire and the peaceful ambience of nature.

Understanding Ranthambore's Zones

The park's layout is divided into core and buffer zones. The core areas, zones 1–5, are designated as crucial habitats where tigers and other wildlife roam relatively undisturbed. Zones 6–10, which make up the buffer zones, are areas where controlled human activity is allowed and are still managed for conservation. Zones 3, 4, and 5 are particularly popular among visitors for their higher frequency of tiger sightings, especially during the summer months when wildlife often gathers at water sources. I spotted the tiger in our morning safari at Zone 4.

Essential Tips for a Safe and Respectful Safari Experience

Heading Out on Safari? Keep These Tips in Mind

Protection Measures:

Always wear a sun hat, scarf, and mask. The dry climate and dusty conditions of the park can make these protective items essential for your comfort and health.

Behaviour Guidelines:

Remain calm and composed throughout the safari. It's important to follow all instructions provided by your guide to ensure your safety and the safety of the animals.

Feeding Wildlife:

Do not feed the animals. The wildlife in the park has enough natural resources to sustain itself, and feeding them can disrupt their natural behaviours and endanger both you and the animals.

Littering:

Keep the park clean by not littering. Always dispose of your waste in the designated areas to help maintain the natural beauty of the environment.

Vehicle Safety:

Stay inside the vehicle and remain seated at all times. Exiting or standing can be dangerous and is not allowed during the safari.

Noise Levels:

Keep noise to a minimum. Loud sounds can disturb the wildlife, potentially reducing your chances of a good sighting and disrupting the natural habitat.

Prohibited Substances:

Smoking and the consumption of alcohol are strictly forbidden within the park premises to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Following these simple guidelines will help ensure that your safari is not only enjoyable but also respects the natural environment and its inhabitants.
